Operation Hero at Te Papa

Operation Hero is a new TV series here in New Zealand that features kids following in the footsteps of some of New Zealand's heroes and attempting things like abseiling, parachuting, code-breaking and whatnot. Last weekend there was a kick-off event at Te Papa and it promised lots of fun so Katie, her friend Molly, Josie and I went down to check it out.

When we arrived there were several types of vehicles outside for the kids to explore - an ambulance, an army jeep and a big Winnebago-type trailer. The girls had a quick look around but they were really more keen to get inside and try the abseiling and games.

Josie and Katie were one of the first to sign-up to abseil, but sadly once they got up to the third floor they were sent back down again due to being too small physically to wear the safety harness. They were very disappointed but they did get to participate in a team challenge that required each girl to bike one kilometer on a stationary bike to get a set of clues then take the clues to solve a code-breaker.

All in all it wasn't a bad way to spend an afternoon!
