We arrived safely in Florida almost a week ago without any drama during our travel - no missed flights, lost luggage or immigration time outs!!! However, we did land in the middle of Tropical Storm Debby. Things weather-wise obviously weren't too bad when we landed - otherwise of course we would have been diverted - but there was quite a bit of rain. As soon as we hit the tarmac all the locals on our flight turned on their phones and suddenly we were being shown photos of flooded streets all over the Bay Area.
The Martins met us at the airport and the girls all picked up with their cousins as if they had never been apart. Ali and Stacy generously had all the girls over to their house to spend the night so we could get unpacked and organized over at the beach with a little peace and quiet. Unfortunately that evening around 11 pm we lost power where we are staying and it stayed off for two days! The water was much higher than it's been in years past with the waves crashing up near the sea grass just outside our window. It was all very exciting. The winds brought some trees down and wreaked havoc by pushing water even higher on the roads, but our kids were unfazed, they are used to strong winds. Although the water got close my parents' houses were safe and we didn't have any major flooding or damage anywhere.
The sun did finally come out though - here are some photos of the girls swimming at Ali and Stacy's in the lake and in the pool. Cheerleading is the theme of this summer and we've already seen lots of cheer shows in the pool.
Lots of love to all!!
