| A visit by Mr. Whippy is always a treat. |
On one of our last days at Waitetoko we drove up to Tirau where we planned to meet with Catherine Savage and hand Katie off for a week with them at their place in the Coramandel. It was a beautiful day and a lovely drive and we enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Cabbage Tree cafe. We were feeling adventurous and inspired so went to the local isite to see what we might find to do nearby. The Glowworm Caves in Waitomo are renowned as a "must-see" and looked close enough so we headed over to check it out. The drive took us twice as long as we had estimated, but it was beautiful, and as soon as we got there the rain came bucketing down. Perfect timing really.
Meggie wasn't a huge fan of being underground but the caves were impressive and the glowworms lit the place up beautifully. Unfortunately no photos were allowed.

On the way home we discovered what looked to be a lost and lonely dog on the side of the road as we came into a small town. We opened the car door and in he jumped with kisses and licks aplenty. He was so friendly I would have totally kept him, but we popped into a little cafe to see if they possibly recognized the dog and the lady there thought she knew where he lived and took him off our hands. She said the family had moved recently and the dog was probably trying to wander back to its old home.
While whiling away the hours in the car I was browsing Facebook and discovered some of our Karori friends were in Taupo for the evening so I messaged them and we met up for a great night of Mexican food.
